With the power of knowledge and the will of putting forth a little effort, you can quite easily prepare your animals' food at home and freeze feeding portions in your freezer. It is optimal to buy free-range hormone-free organic meats. Find out what meats your animal companion prefers, and rotate those choices. You can buy the meat already ground, or purchase a meat grinder (in the range of $100) and grind the meat to chunky style. Some animals prefer more chunky, some less. The grinder can also be used to grind up fresh raw bones. (Never feed an animal "cooked" bones!) Ideally, it is appropriate to let your pet eat all they want in one feeding per day; this allows the digestive tract to clean out and rest between meals as it would do in the wild. Since feeding has become such an integral piece of the human-animal relationship, two meals a day is also fine. Or in special cases where illness is present, meals may be more frequent. A raw meat broth and/or raw organic egg yolks are also very beneficial in cases of illness.
